Rethinking the Lawn

Rethinking the Lawn In-Person

Learn why lawns are not eco-friendly and discover how to decide the best use for the space. Marin Master Gardener Marie Narlock will broaden your definition of “lawn alternative” and help you answer the following questions:

  • Why replace your lawn?
  • What are three methods for lawn removal?
  • What do you put where you lawn was?

Marie has been a UC Marin Master Gardener since 2004. She studied landscape design through the UC Berkeley Extension and Merritt College and completed sustainable landscape classes at Sonoma State University. She writes articles for the Marin IJ and is co-founder and co-editor of the Leaflet, the Marin Master Gardener e-newsletter. Marie has participated in many MMG projects over the years, including the Marin County Fair demonstration gardens. Marie advocates using native plants in the garden both for their beauty and to help maintain Marin's biodiversity.
